Salters - Nuffield Advanced Biology

How is the coursework assessment in the current course different in SNAB from other A-level Biology courses?

AS course
In the Salters-Nuffield Advanced Biology AS course, students complete a visit or issue report and a practical work review. The written report may be a record of a visit to a site of biological interest, or a report of non-practical research into a biological topic. In both cases the report concentrates on the application of the relevant biological principles. The report should be between 1000 and 1500 words and will be marked by Edexcel.

Students present a written review of their practical work. They submit this, together with their accounts of two practicals which they have chosen to review as evidence. The Practical Work Review tests students' knowledge of practical techniques they will have carried out; their knowledge and understanding of the experimental and investigative skills of safety and use of apparatus; producing reliable and valid results; understanding of significance of results/data; presenting data; and using results to draw conclusions. Students will be required to draw on their experiences of carrying out practical work in choosing two practical accounts to be submitted as evidence. Only the Practical Work Review will be marked, not the two practical accounts submitted as evidence. The review is marked by Edexcel.

A2 Coursework Investigation
Students devise and carry out an experimental investigation and present a written report of their investigation. This report will be marked by the teacher with moderation by Edexcel.
