SNAB school success

Gareth Burley of Deacon's School Peterborough writes ...

In the recently published Good Schools Guide and an Observer article, Deacon's School Peterborough was named as best for biology teaching in England.

The study was based on a combination of recruitment and retention data for biology students and results in AS and A2 biology. As we are currently a SNAB school, and also piloted the course (in fact the results of the survey are based on the cohort who studied the pilot specification) we would like to extend our thanks for the significant contribution that the SNAB course made towards the three measures that the study is based on.

As a department we feel that the SNAB course was instrumental in this success - the new approach of the course has motivated our students from the outset and has held their interest and enthusiasm throughout their studies.

We have also seen steadily increasing numbers in Biology since the pilot began, and now have almost half of Year 12 studying biology post-16!
That's 14 students last year, 30 this year, and 46 have signed up for next year already.
